Prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in elderly population in a rural community of Bangladesh

Background: Musculoskeletal disorders are a leading source of physical impairment in elderly, and the frequency these is anticipated to increase rapidly as population ages. In Bangladesh, musculoskeletal among elderly on rise, causing them immense misery. The aim this study find out prevalence disorder age group rural community Bangladesh. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional was conducted over period one year from April 2017 March 2018 few villages Mokshedpur union Dohar Upazila Dhaka district individuals with 60 above. Modified COPCORD (Community Oriented Program for Control Rheumatic Disorders) questionnaire used detect positive respondents. Results: pain 52.10%. Prevalence higher women, 113 (56.6%) than men, 85 (43.4%). Most patient belongs 60-69 (79.3%). Higher rates were observed housewife (42%), retired person (24%) cultivators (17%). individual had no smoking habit, 145 (73.2) 42.9% daily smokeless tobacco users. Lower back (42.4%) knee (37.4%) prevalent group. Non-specific low (28.8%) osteoarthritis (26.3%) Among all disorder, female male. Conclusions: common causes morbidity disability communities Women affected more frequently men. Mechanical inflammatory arthropathies.
